Choosing the Right Dentist for your Dental Implant needs.

In this 2 part series we will explore some important considerations when choosing a dentist that is right for you and your Dental Implant Needs.

Choosing the right dentist to place and restore your dental implants is an important decision.  It can mean the difference between long-term success and significant problems.  Decisions about your dental health should be taken very seriously.  In today’s world we are faced with many choices.  Should you choose a dentist by the advertisements you see on TV or in your local newspaper?  Some of these can be very convincing.  Making a decision as serious as this requires research into these “Implant Centers”.   It may not be as clear a choice, as it seems.  Be sure to carefully investigate the Implant Center or Dentist you choose to determine if it is the right choice for you.

One Size Does Not Fit All.

When choosing the right implant dentist for your needs “one size does not fit all”.  Implant dentistry has become big business with chains popping up nationwide.  This type of facility might be fine for eyeglasses or clothing chains but may not be right for your dental implant needs.  One-size implant systems and one type of implant treatment may not be what are best for you.  Each person is unique and so is their situation when it comes to implant dentistry.   Not everyone needs all their teeth removed and replaced with an implant denture such as “All on 4” or “Teeth in a Day”.  This may be right for you but perhaps there are other options that need to be considered.

One “size” or “type” of dental implant also does not work best in every situation.  You wouldn’t expect to use the same implant size and type to replace a back tooth as you would a front tooth?  The type of bone and the position in the mouth need to be carefully considered when choosing the right implant for the situation.  Also, the techniques required to beautifully blend an implant tooth in your smile with your natural teeth is much more challenging than replacing a back tooth.  This type of treatment requires additional skills and knowledge of implant dentistry.

You get what you pay for.

When choosing the right implant dentist for your needs “you get what you pay for”.  You have seen the advertisements on TV offering dental implants at a cost that just seems to good to be true.  Well in dentistry, just like everything else in life, if it sounds to good to be true it usually is.  This is especially true when considering your dental health.  All dental implants are not created equal.  Dental implant manufacturing companies have grown tremendously over the last few years.  The goal being to provide dental implants based on cost rather than quality.  That could mean cheaper materials being used or manufacturing techniques that are not as strictly regulated for quality.  This could mean the difference between long-term success and significant problems.
