We often see patients who want to be assured they are receiving the highest quality of care possible. It can be difficult to measure the quality of care in a service industry like dentistry. There are however common factors for dentistry as in all businesses. You often hear “you get what you pay for”. Dentistry is no different. Be cautious about claims for free treatment or special low prices for treatment such as crowns or implants. It may be tempting to try to save money but there is a reason quality care costs more. All crowns are not created equal. Some are produced here in the United States with quality control using only the finest porcelain materials and high content gold metals. Other cheaper versions can be produced in places like China where questionable materials and quality control can be passed off as a high quality product. If a crown or implant is being advertised for hundreds of dollars less than most dentists charge than how could it be the same quality for so much less? In the long term high quality care will pay for itself with improved health and fewer dental problems. Poor quality care leads to additional treatments, more often and usually leads to poor health.
One third of the population snores. It is estimated that more than 80 million people in North America snore while sleeping. Did you know snoring can be deadly? Snoring can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. During sleep, the muscles and soft tissue of the throat and mouth relax making the breathing airway smaller. This decrease in the airway space increases the velocity of air flowing through the airway during breathing. As this occurs, soft tissues like the soft palate and the uvula vibrate. These vibrations are generally referred to as snoring. Snoring can be treated with a custom fabricated dental device worn at night which moves the lower jaw into a more forward position, increasing the airway space and reducing snoring. This device is easily fabricated in our dental office and has proven to be very effective.
It is important for patients to understand their level of dental health and the responsibilities they have in maintaining good oral and systemic health. In order to do this patients need to understand their oral health conditions; understand and accept the dentists recommended treatment; understand and accept their role in home care and follow up treatment. In order for this to occur the doctor must complete a comprehensive examination of all the biological and structural components of the mouth. When you visit our office prepare yourself for a unique experience. Through the process of a comprehensive examination you will gain an understanding of all your dental health needs and the options necessary to achieve optimal health.
Staying current in Dentistry is extremely important. Each day new discoveries are found in dentistry just like other professions. Mastering these new techniques is vital in providing patients with optimal state of the art care. Knowledge and understanding of procedures and materials available for optimal care is extremely important. That is why Drs. Drs. Lerner and Lemongello are often sought out as mentors from their colleagues for this reason.
