Dental implants. What are my options?

In the first part of this three part series we will discuss options to replace a single missing tooth with a dental implant.

The popularity of dental implants has increased in recent years.  This is due to their ability to restore oral health but also provide a beautiful natural smile that is permanent.  Dental implants technology is not new.  Dental implants have been a predictable successful option for the replacement of teeth for more than two decades.  With their arrival came the new hope for those with missing teeth.  What has changes is the techniques and advancement in procedures improving efficiency, comfort and esthetics.  Now implants teeth can be indistinguishable from natural teeth.  What used to take multiple appointments and months of treatment now can be accomplished in a fewer and shorter appointments.  Getting to know what implant procedure is right for you can change and improve your life.

Single tooth

The loss of a single tooth due to an accident, decay or periodontal disease can be upsetting and even devastating if it is a front tooth effecting your smile.  The good news is one tooth can be easily replaced using a dental implant. To replace a single tooth, a dental implant is placed into the site where the tooth is missing, replacing the root of the tooth. A small post called an abutment is then attached to the implant.  The replacement tooth, usually a crown, is then cemented over the abutment post.  The new tooth will look, feel and function just like your natural tooth.

Dental implants have the highest success rate of any tooth-replacement option and a successful history spanning decades, making them the best long-term solution to replace missing teeth.  Implants can last the rest of your life when properly cared for.   This is what makes them such a good value.
