Whether you’re an adult considering orthodontic treatment or a teenager seeking a modern alternative, Invisalign offers a clear and effective path to improved oral health and aesthetics.

What Is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of clear plastic aligners that are virtually undetectable when used by the patient for teeth straightening. At the office of Dr. Lemongello in Palm Beach, Florida, we recognize that choosing to straighten your teeth is a meaningful step toward enhancing your appearance. Invisalign is a modern-day solution to teeth straightening that offers a combination of cosmetic and health benefits. Patients often experience straighter teeth, improved gum health, and easier cleanings—all thanks to custom-made, removable aligners designed to fit comfortably and work efficiently.

These aligners are crafted from smooth, BPA-free plastic and are developed using precise digital imaging. Each aligner set is worn for one to two weeks before being replaced by the next in the sequence, gradually moving your teeth into their ideal positions. Because the aligners are removable, you can continue to enjoy your normal diet and maintain your oral hygiene routine without the challenges that come with metal braces.

The Benefits of Using Invisalign

Choosing Invisalign means choosing a solution that fits your lifestyle. Some of the top benefits include:

  • A nearly invisible look that won’t affect your daily confidence
  • Smooth, comfortable aligners that don’t irritate cheeks or gums
  • The freedom to remove aligners for meals and daily hygiene
  • Fewer in-office visits compared to traditional orthodontics
  • Advanced digital treatment planning for predictable results

For many, Invisalign makes the teeth-straightening journey more manageable and far less disruptive to their daily routines.

How is Invisalign Different from Mail-Order Teeth Aligners?

Invisalign is a professionally supervised teeth-straightening system with several key advantages over mail-order aligners. With Invisalign, your treatment plan is created by a dentist who has personally examined your teeth, mouth, and dental x-rays. In contrast, mail-order aligners typically rely on photos or molds you take yourself, with little to no direct clinical oversight.

Invisalign uses advanced software and precise digital impressions to create custom aligners that fit your teeth accurately. Throughout your treatment, you’ll have in-person checkups with the same dentist, ensuring consistent monitoring and adjustments as needed. This personalized approach helps deliver safer, more predictable results.

What Is The Process Of Getting Invisalign?

  1. An initial consultation will help address any issues that the patient may have about the procedure. During this time, the dentist will perform a smile assessment to determine if you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign treatment.
  2. The dentist takes X-ray images, photographs, and actual impressions of your teeth. These will be sent to the Align Technology Laboratory, where a patented system will create three-dimensional images of your teeth. A corresponding treatment plan will be generated by the software based on the calculated movements of the teeth throughout the prescribed treatment period.
  3. For each stage of the proposed treatment plan, a corresponding custom-made plastic aligner will be fabricated.
  4. The patient will be asked to wear the first plastic aligner for two weeks before switching out to the next set of aligners. This procedure will be repeated every two weeks until the teeth have been gradually moved into their correct position.
  5. Each case is individual, and some cases take longer than others, depending on the severity and complexity of your crooked teeth.  Invisalign treatment typically takes about 12 months to achieve the final outcome, but minor tooth movements can be achieved in as little as six to nine months.

Because Invisalign aligners are removable, they may be conveniently taken out of the mouth for eating or for cleaning the appliance. For best results, however, Invisalign aligners are recommended to be worn at least 20 hours a day throughout the treatment period.

How Do I Know If Invisalign Is Right for Me?

If you have mild to moderate misalignment, an overbite, crossbite, underbite, or other alignment concerns, you may be a great candidate for Invisalign. This system is commonly used to correct minor bite problems, as well as turned teeth, overlapping teeth, gaps, and more.

The best way to understand what Invisalign can do for you is to schedule a consultation at our friendly and professional office.

Frequently Asked Questions

When Will I Start Seeing Results with Invisalign?

Invisalign allows you to watch your smile transform throughout the entire treatment. Since the aligners are clear, your teeth remain visible, and only someone up close is likely to notice you’re wearing them. Most patients begin noticing subtle changes within the first few months, with more noticeable improvements appearing as treatment progresses.

How Do I Care for My Invisalign Aligners?

Caring for your aligners is simple but important for oral health and treatment success:

  • Always remove aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.
  • Rinse them with cool or lukewarm water before reinserting. If debris is present, wipe it gently with a clean finger or cloth.
  • Rinse your mouth before reinserting to remove food particles and reduce the risk of cavities.
  • Use a dedicated soft-bristled toothbrush to clean aligners once or twice daily—avoid using toothpaste or your regular toothbrush.
  • Carry a protective case to store your aligners safely when eating out.

Is Invisalign Painful?

Invisalign aligners are not painful and are designed without sharp edges or corners, minimizing irritation to your cheeks or tongue. However, as with any teeth straightening method, you may experience slight discomfort when starting a new set of aligners. This temporary soreness is caused by the gentle pressure required to move your teeth and can typically be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

Can I Use Invisalign If I’ve Had Braces or Other Dental Work?

Yes. If your teeth have shifted after wearing braces, Invisalign can often help correct minor to moderate misalignment. These cases tend to require shorter treatment times since bite issues are usually not involved.

Invisalign also works well for patients with dental restorations such as crowns, fillings, inlays, or onlays. Your aligners will be custom-made to fit over your current teeth. Because movement occurs at the root level, the process will not be affected by existing dental work.
